How does hair contouring work? Hair contouring works with lighter and darker shades of hair. Thanks to this play of light and shadow, special colouring and highlights based on contouring can soften or emphasise some features of our face. Darker tones create shadows, which narrow the face shape; light tones lengthen the face by reflecting more light.
